Cereal Killers!

More news about the upcoming Cereal Killers art book that I'm a part of can be found at Von Kreep's spook-tacular blog, Monster Shindig. Looks like it's going to be a rockin' "cartoon monster koffin table"- full of creepy cereal box illustrations done by artists I really admire. Keep an eyeball out for it when it hits the bookshelves in the next couple of months. Will post news here.

A monsterous thank you to Von Kreep for featuring my art of Mucky Blarms!

Now with Purple Earlobes!

"They're always after me Mucky Blarms!"

Here's an illustration I did for an upcoming art book titled "Cereal Killers". It's being put together by Von Kreep over at 1313 Midnite Kreepshow. Each artist could pick a type of cereal and make it gross, scary, disgusting, etc. I'm looking forward to seeing the completed book- there's a ton of super talented artists contributing.

It's my vilified version of Lucky Charms. Instead of a bubbly leprechaun, I made a flesh eating zombified ghoul. Now with Purple Earlobes! Yum!

"Frosted Mucky Blarms, they're tragically malicious!"

Side Note- As a kid my favorite cereal was actual Crispix and Corn Chex, but both are a little boring and difficult to Kreepify!

Here's an early rough sketch of Mucky-

Sidney Knows

Yes, Sidney knows! He knows everything! He can and will see (and possibly eat) your soul. I didn't even go close to Sidney, afraid that he would deliver a fortune card of my doom.

Here are a few pics I snapped when we spent the weekend down in Rye, a small medieval coastal town in SE England. These wonderfully creepy machines were in the dusty upstairs of the tourist info place.

What's this guy doing to this baby? Whatever it is, he looks very guilty. >>

They each cost an old English penny (which stopped circulating in 1971) and are they worth it. The English Executioner, Davy Jones Locker, The Church Graveyard are all from the early 1900s and still are great to look at.

My favorite was Barnacle Bill. He's a sinisterly happy sailor that rocks back and forth while issuing a bone-chilling laugh that seems to go on forever. The best part is that he has a twin brother that operates in the Musee Mechanique in San Francisco. His name was Jolly Jack and just as ominous. It was one of my favorite places to take friends who were visiting SF.

I don't seem to remember him moving when I snapped this photo.

Behold Karl!

Meet Karl. I thought I'd share a side character in one of the cartoon show pitches that I've been throwing together. He's very short sighted and short tempered. He might have a German accent. Not to say Germans are short tempered. Cuz they're not.

Love is in the Air

Mmmmm. Can you smell it? Let it waft into your immense nostrils and just let it sit there for awhile. What is it that aroma filling the air, floating above New York City?

Stale rat farts?
Moldy soggy socks?
Rotting fish entrails?
Nope, it's love.

I did this little drawing a few weeks back for a Save the Date postcard for my brother, Joel's wedding. It's taking place in NYC this summer and yes, I am the Bestest Man.

Giant Sushi Plate Attacks London

First Bigfoot and now this? Sweet.

A 28 foot long giant squid (Architeuthis dux) went on display at the British Natural History Museum yesterday! It was caught by fisherman off the Falkland Islands in March2004. I wonder what took them so long? Apparently it's the most intact specimen ever captured.

This pics are from the BBC article about it. Here's video from the Museum, detailing the process of preserving the monster.

Here's a pic of me with it, sharing an intimate moment. Actually I plan to see "Archie" as quickly as possible. I've never seen a giant squid with me own two eyes.

Bigfoot in Britian?

** Please note- The drawing on the left is an old gross drawing I did many years ago of Bigfoot. I'll see if I can whip up a proper British Bigfoot this week.

Sorry about the lack of posts lately- been busy juggling three jobs at once, plus celebrating my birfday. Hopefully in the coming weeks I'll be able to post more artwork as I finish it.

Now some news from "upnort" (as they say in Wisconsin, translation- "north"). Apparently there's been a few Bigfoot sightings recently in an area called Cannock Chase, right here in England. Here's the news story off of one of my favorite blogs,Cryptomundo. The site is dedicated "to share, read, see, and learn about the finds and evidence of the most elusive and rare animals (cryptids) on this planet Earth- Bigfoot, Yeti, Chupacabra, Ivory Billed Woodpecker, Nessie, Yowie, and more."

British Bigfoot Story

Why the Bigfoot sightings now in Britian? Maybe he's here visiting his friend up in Loch Ness....

The C Word

Yes, that "C" word. The big kahuna of filthy words.

I've never heard it repeated so often in one place at one time. Where was this magical place, you ask? It was at my very first English football match last Saturday. The match was specifically Millwall vs. the Queen Park Rangers. If you don't know anything about football in the UK (like me), Millwall fans are the most hated and despised throughout the league. They are the ones that live up to the name "hooligans".

Luckily I was on their side. My friend, Andy (a lifelong Millwall fan) brought me along and taught me the ropes. A few big fights kicked off which brought in the near 300 cops in riot gear. Before the game even started, I was caught in the middle of two police horses. I thought I was gonna get thumped or at least acquire a hoof print on my forehead.

I escaped unscathed and definitely go to another football match sometime.

Thanks and apologies to Battman.

Here are some pics from the game.

Pair of Hooters

Hooters employees from Green Bay, Wisconsin. This was inspired by a conversation with another artist originally from Green Bay. We were discussing how the city was changing more and more with crappy chain restaurants and a monstrous WalMart gobbling up our nostalgic views of our hometown. We agreed the worst of it was when Hooters moved onto Holmgren Avenue. The girl on the right is the HGM (Hooter Girl of the Month). The girl on the left is not.

Stinky yet Smelly

This guy wanted to sit next to me at the cafe a while back. He stormed into the place, loudly breathing and demanding "Two coffees! Extra, extra hot!" He carried with him a cloud of stink and moistness that can only experienced first-hand. But on the positive side, he was very friendly. Too bad that I "had to get going and he could have the table."

Moon Monkey Goblin King

I've been having trouble sleeping lately. It's probably because of these stupid nocturnal monsters that keep waking me up.

Last night, I awoke to hear ominious scratching at my bedroom window. Luckily I always wear my camera around my neck when I go to bed, so I was able to snap this shot as I opened the curtains. It's obviously some sort of woodland imp who is lost/trying to eat me.

I have a hunch that this visit is connected to the other creature that's been hoopin and hollerin late at night. I'll keep you updated. I'm installing motion sensor cameras and bait in the backyard.

Giant Python- Eats Alligator, Explodes

Why wasn't I notified of this earlier?

I just found this awesome story on the world wide internet. Back in October of 2005, some Florida Everglade rangers came upon the gruesome site of a giant python that exploded while trying to eat a six foot long alligator. This happened in Florida- not the Amazon or Africa.

Can you imagine the battle royale that must have taken place previous to the swallowing? Can you? I guess the alligator got the last laugh. What was going through that snake's head- "So full... but..must..eat...entire...gator... feel like I'm going to burst..."

The rangers couldn't find the poor bastard's head either.

Read the sweet article from the Miami Herald.

T42

This delightfully smashing couple was sitting next to us while we were having a drink (and using a web hookup) at a posh inn in the country. Very stiff upper lip Brits that would barely talk (or move) except for a few sentences peppered here and there. They made for perfect "still life" objects. The tomato juice conversation actually happened and I wrote it down in its entirety. I had a distinct feeling that the husband would have liked to be anywhere else in the world.

Boogie Man

Today is my brother, Joels' birthday and I wanted to honor him by posting one of my drawings from Field Guide to Midwest Monsters based on him. It is of the Boogey Man- one of the many childhood demons that my brother was certain that was lurking in his closet. He had that exact nightlight as well. Happy Birthday bud!

The People Underground

Most Londoners dread it, but I think the deep, dark Tube is full of interesting looking people (oddly shaped freaks) for me to carefully, carefully observe and copy into my sketchbook. Here's a collage of a few quick sketches over the last coupla weeks. I think I'll blow out the proportions a little more on the next batch- I've just been a little frightened that one of the underground dwellers will spot me eyeing them up and pummel my soft sensitive face.

Grumpy Gramps

Last night I had the pleasure of sharing a couple (four) of pints with Nicky's Grandad in South London. He goes to the same pub at the same time every night. He easily puts down five to six glasses of Fosters in a sitting. He's an ol' London cockney that has hundreds of stories from throughout his life.

He had twelve brothers and sisters. They were poor, so the boys had to share one pair of shoes- taking turns to wear them and then to go to school. His mother sold him to the carnival when he was 13. As a carnie, he drove the motorcycle in the Wheel of Death. His other stories revolve around evil pet monkeys (is there any other kind?) and a cross eyed pig named Suzie.

I'm going to try to get him to tell me more stories (it's not difficult), so I can write them down and illustrate them.

This is that man.
